Through both theoretical and empirical research, the faculty study a wide range of industries including retail, transportation, and healthcare. In both research and teaching, faculty consider not just traditional manufacturing topics but also supply chains and services.

Department faculty publish in academic journals as well as produce managerial-oriented articles and textbooks. Multiple faculty members have won scholarly awards for individual papers as well as career achievement awards such as being named Distinguished Fellows of the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Society.
